Taylor Swift Album Party Deemed Super Spreader Event After 100 Tested Positive for COVID-19

At least 97 positive cases of COVID are connected to a party attended by 600 fans of the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter to celebrate her album 'Red' in Sydney, Australia.

AceShowbiz - A Taylor Swift party has turned out to be a super spreader event after almost 100 cases connected to the party. At least 97 people who attended "On Repeat: Taylor Swift Red Party" in Sydney last Friday, December 10 tested positive for the virus, the New South Wales Ministry of Health has confirmed.

The party, which was attended by around 600 fans of the country-turned-pop superstar, was held in celebration of her album "Red". The 32-year-old singer herself wasn't actually at the party which took place at Sydney's Metro Theatre.

Now anyone who attended the party are required to quarantine for at least 7 days and get tested immediately. "Anyone who attended the 'On Repeat: Taylor Swift Red Party' " on "10 December is a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 7 days," a public health alert by New South Wales Health warned. "It is likely some of these cases have the Omicron variant of concern."

The alert also noted, "Penalties for non-compliance with the isolation, testing and quarantine requirements have increased to $5,000 for individuals (from $1,000), and $10,000 for corporations (from $5,000)."

NSW Health's press release additionally said, "NSW Health is urgently contacting 600 people who attended Metro Theatre at this time and checked in via the QR code and is directing them and members of their households to immediately get tested and follow public health advice."

The area is currently experiencing a surge of positive cases, with the seven-day average reaching 1,091 as of Thursday, a far cry from the 214 average at the start of the month, according to NBC News based on Johns Hopkins University data.

The super-spreader party comes on the heels of Taylor throwing a COVID-safe party to celebrate her 32nd birthday earlier this week. On Monday, December 13, the "Cardigan" songstress posted pictures of her partying with her friends, including Alana Haim who had an early birthday celebration that night. Preemptively shutting down criticism over the party, she assured, "Don't worry we tested everyone!"
