In an official statement revealing her diagnosis, her agency says the 30-year-old actress will not be able to partake in the promotions of her upcoming movie 'Special Delivery' to focus on her recovery.

AceShowbiz - South Korean star Park So Dam has a health setback. The actress, who gained international fame through her role in "Parasite", has been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, her agency has announced.
In an official statement released on Monday, December 13, ArtistCompany, which represents the actress, said that the 30-year-old was diagnosed during a regular health check and has undergone surgery. "Actress Park So Dam was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer from her regular health examination, and she completed surgery following the doctor's recommendation," the company stated.
As the result, Park will not be able to participate in the promotions of her upcoming movie "Special Delivery" a.k.a. "Special Cargo" as she is focusing on her recovery. The statement continued to read, "As the long-awaited 'Special Delivery' is soon premiering, actress Park So Dam is very disappointed that she cannot be together with fans who have waited and shown support. Although actress Park So Dam cannot participate in 'Special Delivery' promotions, she is cheering on the 'Special Delivery' premiere."
The agency further expressed "gratitude to the 'Special Delivery' actors and production team who are also overcoming a difficult situation together with everyone who supports 'Special Delivery' and actress Park So Dam."
"Actress Park So Dam will focus on her recovery in order to greet everyone in good health in the future, and her agency Artist Company will also do our best for the actress to recover her health," it assured, before concluding, "Thank you."
Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type of thyroid cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic. "Papillary thyroid cancer can occur at any age, but most often it affects people ages 30 to 50," they note. "Most cases of thyroid cancer can be cured with treatment."
Park came into popular recognition in South Korea through her role in 2015's film "The Priests" and 2016's TV series "Cinderella with Four Knights", before being cast in Bong Joon Ho's Oscar-winning thriller "Parasite" (2019). She later starred on TV series "Record of Youth" (2020) and drama film "Fukuoka" (2020). Her new movie "Special Delivery" is scheduled to be released on January 12, 2022.
