The Vamps' James McVey Credits Time in Jungle for Engagement to Girlfriend

The lead guitarist for the rock band reveals that he has popped the question to Kirstie Brittain, because he really missed her during filming for 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'.

AceShowbiz - The Vamps guitarist James McVey is engaged to marry his girlfriend Kirstie Brittain.

The British musician popped the question to model and environmental student Kirstie during a weekend break to the Lake District in the U.K. a few days into the New Year.

Revealing the news to Britain's Hello! magazine, the 24-year-old explained how his time in the jungle as part of British reality show "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" made him decide not to waste any time in getting engaged to Kirstie, whom he met four years ago.

"I think when you're in the jungle you have nothing to do but think and you really figure out the sort of person you are and the things that mean the most to you," he said. "I already knew I wanted to propose to Kirstie this year and I didn't see why waiting six months would make any difference. I missed her so much when I was in the camp and I really struggled."

Kirstie, 23, recalled how James got down one knee but was too busy crying that he forgot to actually ask her to marry him.

"I was crying," he continued. "She said, 'aren't you going to ask me then?' So I did," to which Kirstie added, "And I said, 'yes, obviously.' "

James also revealed how his jungle campmate, soccer manager Harry Redknapp, met with him at a jewellery shop in Bournemouth, England a few days after Christmas to help him pick out the ring, but by the time Harry arrived, James had already decided on a platinum and diamond cushion cut sparkler.
