AceShowbiz - For the third time in a year, "Heathers" reboot is deemed inappropriate in the wake of a mass shooting in the U.S. Two controversial episodes of the TV reboot have been pulled off schedule on Paramount Network following the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting on Saturday, October 27 that killed 11 people.
The episodes in question which were supposed to air on Sunday featured a storyline which saw high school students undergoing active shooter training. Saturday's episodes are available to watch via VOD and the Paramount app and website.
Previously, episodes 9 and 10 of the show were combined into one installment to edit out a part in which the high school is blown up as it was deemed "too controversial for U.S. audiences." The final episode will also air as scheduled on Monday night.
An adaptation of the 1988 movie of the same title, "Heathers" TV reboot has been going through a rough patch since the beginning. Its planned March 7 premiere was scrapped following the deadly high school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead.
It was reported that Paramount Network considered to move the premiere date to July, but in the wake of the Santa Fe high school shooting in May, the network's parent company Viacom dropped "Heathers" entirely in June due to continued concern for its content.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that executives at Paramount Network were frustrated they weren't able to find a new domestic home for "Heathers". Netflix and Freeform were among potential new homes which have passed on the series. While it has not found a domestic home, the show has been sold and aired internationally.
The original movie was a black comedy that featured two teen outsiders embarking on a killing spree, murdering the most popular students at their high school and ultimately plotting to blow up the school. While it failed at box office, it was praised by critics and later became a cult film.
