The satirical cabaret show, which was created by Danny Salles, is billed as a 'hilarious send-up' of U.S. President Donald Trump and his family.

AceShowbiz - Actress Gina Gershon is heading back to the New York stage to star as U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in a quirky new musical comedy.

The "Showgirls" star will reprise her impression of the Slovenian-born former model, which she showed off during a comedy sketch on America's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" back in January, for forthcoming Off-Broadway production "The 1st Annual Trump Family Special".

Producers describe the satirical cabaret show, which was created by Danny Salles, as a "hilarious send-up" of U.S. President Donald Trump and his family, which will centre on his daughter Ivanka turning interviewer to quiz her relatives as they wait for the leader to arrive for a televised event for the fictional Trump TV network.

The production will feature music and additional lyrics by Grammy-nominated songwriters Tor Hyams and Lisa St. Lou, and choreography by Benji Schwimmer, reports The Wrap.

St. Lou will portray Ivanka Trump, while Suzanne Sole will play Donald's first wife, Ivana Trump, and Marissa Mulder has been cast as his second wife, actress Marla Maples.

The musical will debut on September 13 and will run weekly until December 6.

Gershon previously hit the stage in a 2009 Broadway revival of "Bye Bye Birdie", while she has also featured in "Boeing-Boeing" and "Cabaret", and performed in "The Vagina Monologues" Off-Broadway in 1999.
