AceShowbiz - Rocker Morrissey has scrapped a summer tour just days after activists announced plans to stage an anti-racism 'protest party' outside a concert in his native Manchester, England.

The former The Smiths star angered fans with controversial comments he made about racism and statements that appeared to support far-right politicians in a new interview, and, as a result, DJ Dave Haslam organised a two-day protest for "former Morrissey fans" in a bar near the Castlefield Bowl in Manchester, where the musician was set to play two hometown gigs on 7 and 8 July.

The Everyday is like Sunday singer's manager Peter Katsis lashed out at Haslam earlier this week (beg June 25), insisting the "has-been" was "simply using the situation to gain some much needed attention to himself".

But now Morrissey's entire European tour, including the Manchester shows, has been axed due to "logistical circumstances".

A statement from the singer's management reads: "We deeply regret any inconvenience to the fans and promise to reschedule U.K. and European dates as soon as possible."

Morrissey will resume his Low in High School World Tour in Mexico City, Mexico in November.
