AceShowbiz - Fairy tales fans must be happy as "Snow White" spin-off "Red Rose" will probably hit theaters soon. The House of Mouse is circling Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson to star in the live-action movie as titular character, according to Disney Film Facts.
The story will be set after Snow White takes a bite of a poisonous apple that makes her fall into a deep sleep. This urges Snow White's sister Rose Red to go on a journey with seven dwarfs to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life.
Rose Red is a character who was originally introduced in a fairy tale written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Snow White's sister appeared in a plot which was unrelated to the well-known Snow White story. The story followed two sisters alongside a friendly bear who tried to bring an evil, out-of-control dwarf down to size.
There is no actor being eyed to star in the movie besides Brie.
Back in 2016, the Mouse House announced a plan to develop the project based on original screenplay written by Justin Merz ("The Boxcar Children"). The plan was to adapt the script to a standalone movie. Screenwriter Evan Daugherty ("Snow White and the Huntsman") rewrote the story until it was close to the original animated movie.
Kristin Gore completed the most recent draft of the script. Tripp Vinson, who is producing Disney's "Prince Charming", is on board to produce through his Vinson Films banner.
As the project was announced in 2016, no one knows whether or not the project will eventually be released. Moreover, Disney has neither confirmed nor denied the news of the movie being still in development.
Brie is currently in the middle of production on Marvel Studios' "Captain Marvel", which is set for a March 8, 2019 release in the United States. In the upcoming movie, she will play Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Also portraying the same character, Brie will appear in "Avengers 4" that will be released on May 3, 2019 in the United States.
