'Stranger Things' Season 2 Script Reveals New Character and Details of Arcade Scene

'Just because Will was rescued from the Upside Down doesn't mean he's safe,' series creators Matt and Ross Duffer tease.
Before "Stranger Things" season 2 premiere which is just a few weeks away, details of a certain scene on the show have emerged. EW has obtained some script pages of the second season, revealing a new character and what happens in the scene set at a local arcade which has been previewed in some previously-released sneak peeks.

In the scene, the boys, Dustin, Will, Mike and Lucas, are shocked to find out that someone using a nickname "Mad Max" beat Dustin's top score. As they question who the new top scorer is, another character named Keith chimes in.

Keith wants Mike to set him on a date with his sister in exchange for information about the mystery player. As the boys argue with Keith, Will notices something strange out the door of the arcade. It's snowing in October. When Will turns to his friends, they have vanished.

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer talk about the scene. "Our very first idea for season 2 was to introduce a local arcade (named The Palace, in a nod to WarGames!)," they tell EW. As for Keith, he "is a new character who works at The Palace. He's several years older than our boys, but he's somehow less mature. The only thing he likes more than Cheetos is Nancy."

They also dish on Will who seemingly will have visions of stranger things. " 'Focus our attention on Will' is really a sign of things to come this season, as our main storyline centers on Will and his recovery. Just because Will was rescued from the Upside Down doesn't mean he's safe," they said.

Stars Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo previously revealed that the second season would be "horror oriented." They explained, "Last season, a lot of the horror and a lot of what was happening with Will was off screen in the Upside down. That's not the case [in season 2]. The horror is more up-close and personal. Something happens to Will in the first couple of episodes that's very, very disturbing."

"Stranger Things" season 2 will arrive riday, October 27 on Netflix. The official description reads, "It's 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgan and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived."
