Legendary and Warner Bros. has tapped "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" actress Zhang Ziyi to star in "Godzilla: King of Monsters". The actress will join Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown in the "Godzilla" sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zhang won't only make an appearance in just one movie, but she will also star prominently in Legendary and Warner Bros.' monster-based cinematic universe. Zhang's character is said to be "a key figure in the covert, creature-cataloging Monarch organization" in the upcoming installments of the "Godzilla" movie series. Zhang, therefore, will also appear in "Godzilla vs. Kong", which is set to be released after "King of Monsters".
"Godzilla: King of Monsters" is directed by Michael Dougherty from a script written by Dougherty and Zach Shields. The movie is set to hit U.S. theaters on March 22, 2019.
As for "Godzilla vs. Kong", the film has just found its director in Adam Wingard ("Death Note", "Blair Witch"). Plot detail is still kept under wraps, but "Godzilla vs. Kong" seemingly will highlight the showdown between the iconic giant lizard and the huge ape. The movie is sheduled to be released on May 22, 2020.
Zhang recently wrapped filming "God Particle", the third installment of the "Cloverfield" movie franchise. Her other film credits include "Memoirs of Geisha" and "House of Flying Daggers".
