Candice Swanepoel won't cover up in the name of motherhood. The 28-year-old model, who has been accustomed to showing skin when modeling for various brands, particularly Victoria's Secret lingerie line, is baffled by people's reactions to seeing her breastfeeding in public.
Defending herself and other moms who also breastfeed in public, the South African beauty took to Instagram on Sunday, December 18 to post a black-and-white photo of her going topless while breastfeeding her newborn son, Anaca.
The new mom posted along with the picture a statement in which she slammed double standards applied to women who expose their breasts in public. "Many women today are shamed for breastfeeding in public, or even kicked out of public places for feeding their children. I have been made to feel the need to cover up and somewhat shy to feed my baby in public places but strangely feel nothing for the topless editorials I've done in the name of art..?" she wrote.
She continued, "The world has been desensitized to the sexualization of the breast and to violence on tv...why should it be different when it comes to breastfeeding? -Breastfeeding is not sexual it's natural- Those who feel it is wrong to feed your child in public need to get educated on the benefits breastfeeding has on mother and child and intern on society as a whole."
Candice gave birth to her first child with fiance Hermann Nicoli on October 5. She wasted no time taking part in sexy photo shoot, sharing sultry pics from her "magical trip to Costa Rica" two weeks ago.
