'I could only sleep on one side of my face,' the Canadian singer explains why he cut off his dreadlocks, adding that his life is much easier without them.

The Weeknd surprised millions of his fans when he cut off his dreadlocks just before kicking off his "Starboy" era a few weeks ago. However, it wasn't until recently that the Canadian singer finally explained the real reason why.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, he said that he got rid of his iconic hairstyle because he thought he could live better without it. "I could only sleep on one side of my face," the 26-year-old star explained.
Now that the dreads are gone, The Weeknd's life has been much easier. "Now, the sleep is amazing. The shower is amazing, because I don't have to spend two hours cleaning it," he continued. "I didn't know how much I wanted it until I did it."
The Weeknd went on revealing that his closest friends actually disapproved of the idea of him chopping off his signature hair. "It was a long time coming," he added. "It didn't feel right anymore... I told everybody I was getting rid of it, and everybody - literally, unanimously - they were like, 'No, don't do it! That's your whole thing, that's you.' And the way they said that, I was like, 'Oh, I'm definitely cutting it now.' "
The Weeknd had indeed been rocking the dreadlocks to make him look different from other artists. "I want to be remembered as iconic and different," he said in an interview last year. "So I was like, 'F**k it, I'm gonna let my hair just be what it wants.' I'll probably cut it if it starts interfering with my sight. I can kind of see it right now. But if I cut it, I'd look like everyone else. And that's just so boring to me."
In the same chat, he also revealed that even Taylor Swift was obsessed with his hair. He recalled meeting the songbird for the first time at a party and talking to her while she was "petting" his hair. "I think she was drawn to it - she must have been gone off a few drinks," he shared.
