Michael Fassbender Reveals New Name of Xenomorphs in 'Alien: Covenant', New Details Leak

The David depicter has unveiled the working name of the new aliens, which were previously called Xenomorphs, that will be featured in Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi thriller.

AceShowbiz - Michael Fassbender has shared a new detail about Ridley Scott's sci-fi thriller "Alien: Covenant". During his recent interview with BBC Radio 2's Mark Goodier (via Birth.Movies.Death), the David depicter revealed that the new Xenomorphs in the follow-up to "Prometheus" would be called "Neomorphs".

In addition to the revelation, other reports have emerged unveiling potential details about the horrifying creatures in the upcoming movie. The folks over AvPGalaxy shared several of what they claimed to be official details about the new type of aliens, their origins as well as the roles they served in the movie's plot.

"These [Neomorphs] [SPOILER ALERT!] are the result of the local ecosystem being mutated by the accelerant/black goo. Over time, pods started to grow on the trees and the ground, and release a spore when disturbed," it read. "These spores infect several members of the Covenant crew by entering the body through the ear and nostrils."

"When they mature, they grow significantly larger and walk on their back legs," it continued. "They were more animal-like in behavior with fang-like teeth. Unlike the earlier 'Prometheus' concepts, the Neomorphs also have tails. In addition, the adult Neomorphs also developed a slightly translucent appearance as previously rumored."

Scott directs the upcoming film from a script by Jack Paglen and Michael Green. Katherine Waterston stars as Daniel, the mother of the series' original heroine Ellen Ripley. Noomi Rapace returns as Elizabeth Shaw. Other cast members include Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Alex England, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez.

Set ten years after the event of "Prometheus", "Alien: Covenant" follows a colony ship bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. The crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The sequel is set for an August 4, 2017 release in U.S. theaters.
