The stakes keep getting bigger in the third installment of "The Purge". The first trailer for the threequel called "The Purge: Election Year" is set against the backdrop of the U.S. presidential election and introduces viewers to the leaders of the country in this alternate universe.
Senator Charlie Roan, a sole survivor of a family massacre 15 years ago, is stirring up concerns among people in power as she begins a movement to stop The Purge during her campaign. "The soul of our country is at stake," she says in her speech. "The Purge targets the poor and the innocent. It is a night that is defining our country. The Purge has to come to an end."
Frank Grillo is back as Leo Barnes. He is serving as head of security for Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell). His mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn ... or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.
