Warner Bros. is developing a reboot of "I Am Legend", Deadline reports. The remake project comes after several failed attempts to take a crack at sequel and prequel, fueled by Will Smith's reluctance to reprise his role as the lone hero.
Gary Graham is tapped to write the script for the post-apocalyptic sci-fi redo. The Apple store worker-turned-screenwriter submitted a spec script called "A Garden at the End of the World" to Black List website, and the studio took notice of it.
Described as a "sci-fi version of 'The Searchers'," Graham's story reportedly contains enough similarities to Richard Matheson's novel which "I Am Legend" was based on. The studio then commissions the new scribe to rewrite his script to fit "I Am Legend" universe.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the original 2007 film follows a brilliant scientist who survives in the world where humans are turned into carnivorous beings.
