The project to revive Alex Raymond's comic strip character, scripted by 'Star Trek 3' writers, has found a home at Fox.

Movie rights to science fiction adventure comic strip "Flash Gordon" has been bought by Fox, The Hollywood Reporter learns. "Star Trek 3" scribes John D. Payne and Patrick McKay are writing a script based on a treatment by George Nolfi. John Davis is on board as a producer.

Steven "Flash" Gordon is a character created by Alex Raymond. He's a Yale graduate who is kidnapped and taken into space when Earth was bombarded by fiery meteors. The polo player ends up on the planet Mongo with mad scientist Hans Zasrkov and lovely Dale Arden.

The story has spawned movies and TV series with the latest adaptations running on Sci Fi Channel from 2007 to 2008. There were already several efforts in the past to breathe new life into the Earth-born space explorer and his sidekicks, but none of them came to fruition.

According to Film Divider, the new version will go "right back to the original Raymond comic strips and sidesteps any association with the movie, and even the serials." It will allegedly "reclaim Flash Gordon from his current reputation in the way that Tim Burton redirected the public conception of Batman."
