The 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards will be moved to Monday. NBC and the TV Academy have announced that the three-hour telecast will be held August 25 and air live coast-to-coast from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 8-11 P.M. ET / 5-8 P.M. PT.

NBC breaks the tradition by moving Emmys from its usual Sunday slot to Monday. Explaining the date choice, the Academy President and COO Lucy Hood says, "Each year it is the responsibility of the host network to schedule the Primetime Emmy Awards."

"With NBC, there is the added element of the NFL schedule, which typically pushes the date back into late August. We look forward to working with NBC as we begin to plan the 2014 Primetime show."

The annual awards show rotates annually among the Big Four networks. In 2010, the last time NBC broadcast Emmys, it moved the kudocast from the third weekend in September to August. This will be the first time Emmys takes place in Monday since 1976.

Words are, NBC originally eyed August 24 as the date for Emmys, but MTV Video Music Awards has been long set to air on the same date.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards, meanwhile, will be held Saturday, August 16. No host is announced for the 66th Primetime Emmys yet.
