TV

Sean Maguire will play the Prince of Thieves in the show's season 3 since Tom Ellis is unable to reprise the role.

"Once Upon a Time" will get a new Robin Hood when it returns for a third season this fall. ABC confirms the casting scoop first revealed by TVLine that the show has tapped Sean Maguire to portray the famous vigilante for a recurring arc in the upcoming installment.

"Merlin" star Tom Ellis played the Prince of Thieves in season 2 of the ABC fantasy drama series. However, he's unavailable to return and reprise the role in the next chapter due to scheduling conflicts.

"Although we love Tom Ellis, unfortunately he wasn't available," series co-creator Adam Horowitz previously told the site. "We remain huge fans of his, but because we have an arc planned for the character, we had to move forward."

Maguire starred as Aidan Brosnan on BBC's soap drama "EastEnders" and Krod Mandoon on "Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire". The British actor has also landed roles on U.K. crime drama "Scott & Bailey" as well as CBS' "CSI: NY" and "Criminal Minds".

"Once Upon a Time" season 3 will premiere Sunday, September 29 at 8/7c on ABC.
