Sandra Bullock Passes on Miss Hannigan Role in 'Annie'
Movie

Sony Pictures will begin its search for a new actress to play the villainous character in Will Smith and Jay-Z's drama musical.

Sandra Bullock will not be Miss Hannigan, the evil lady who runs the orphanage where "Annie" lives. First breaking the news, The Wrap reports that Sony Pictures, in its second attempt, was eventually unable to close a deal with Bullock's reps at CAA. The actress herself had initially turned down the offer before entering negotiation again with the studio.

Following Bullock's refusal, Sony will soon start searching for a new actress to tackle the role, played by Carol Burnett in the original 1982 movie. Quvenzhane Wallis is still attached to the project to play the titular character, with Jamie Foxx set to take on the role as NYC mayoral hopeful Benjamin Stacks, a variation of the Daddy Warbucks personage.

Set in a modern era, the drama musical is inspired by the classic tale of little girl Annie who is taken by the rich Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks after running from an orphanage. Will Smith and Jay-Z will join forces to produce the movie, directed by Will Gluck.

Besides directing, "Easy A" helmer Gluck takes part in rewriting the screenplay from Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Expected to start production in late fall, "Annie" is scheduled to be released in 2014.
