'The Walking Dead' Hires Scott Gimple as New Showrunner
TV

Gimple, who has joined the AMC series since the second season, will replace Glen Mazzara starting the fourth season.

"The Walking Dead" has found itself a new showrunner after Glen Mazzara announced that he wouldn't return to the position for the next season. Supervising producer Scott M. Gimple has now been tapped to take over the role starting the fourth season and his deal is being finalized.

Gimple joined the zombie apocalypse series in the second installment as a producer. He was promoted to supervising producer in the third season. He's expected to begin working on the fourth chapter in two weeks.

AMC announced in December 2012 that Mazzara would step down from his position as showrunner after the third season. "Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways," the network said in a statement.

Mazzara himself replaced original showrunner Frank Darabont, who abruptly left the show ahead of the season two premiere. Darabont had already completed the production of the first few episodes when Mazzara took over the role.

"Walking Dead" is currently in hiatus and will return with the remainder of season 3 on Sunday, February 10 at 9/8c. In the new episode, the Governor plans an assault on the prison, but Rick and his group won't give up the place that easily.
