One of the pictures features Rick and his group trying to defend themselves from walkers in the prison yard, while the other image sees machete-wielding Maggie ready to kill a zombie.

AceShowbiz - Some intense scenes in the upcoming third season of "The Walking Dead" have been previewed in a form of pictures. In one of the two newly-released images, Rick, Glenn, Maggie and two other survivors stand in a defensive position and hold their weapons while walkers come approaching them.

The other shot which can be seen on Entertainment Weekly, meanwhile, features Maggie waving her machete as she is ready to attack a zombie in front of her. More walkers donning what seems to be a blue prison jumpsuit are seen swarming the prison yard in the image.

After arriving at the prison in the season 2 finale, Rick and his group will try to clear out the place from the current zombie inhabitants. In an interview with the site, showrunner Glen Mazzara hinted that the prison was not a safe haven.

"It's a haunted house, it's scary, it's frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group," he explained. "It's not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be," he added, hinting that the prison will be different from the one portrayed in the comic.

"Walking Dead" season 3 will premiere this fall on AMC with Danai Gurira and David Morrissey playing new characters, the sword-wielding heroinne Michonne and the evil Governor respectively. Additionally, Michael Rooker will reprise his role as Daryl's racist and hot-tempered brother Merle Dixon.

The horror series will be presented at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 13 in Hall H. An official sneak preview of season 3 is promised to be shown during the panel.
