Hulu made use of its first TCA appearance on Sunday, January 15 to announce its first original scripted series "Battleground". Featuring mostly young unknown actors in the cast ensemble, the series is a political mockumentary/dramedy that chronicles behind the scenes of a Democratic primary campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin.

"Battleground" is set to debut on February 14, during the real-life Republican presidential primary. J.D. Walsh, who executive produces the series, says, "People hate politics but they love elections."

He adds, "Campaigns are about good versus evil, our team versus yours, relationships, temptations, power, unimaginable triumphs and heartbreaking defeats. I'm interested in the people behind the people. What makes them leave ordinary lives and enter the madhouse? It is their emotional journey that I find incredibly compelling."

"Battleground" is part of Hulu's 2012 original programming plans. Morgan Spurlock's "A Day in the Life" will return for a second season this year, joined by new non-scripted travel series "Up to Speed". All three series will be available to both regular non-paying Hulu users as well as paying Hulu Plus subscribers.
