A representative for Patrick has confirmed that the actor passed away on Monday, September 14 and was surrounded by family at time of death.

AceShowbiz - Actor Patrick Swayze has lost his battle against pancreatic cancer on Monday, September 14. He was 57 and is survived by his actress wife Lisa Niemi.

In a confirming statement issued on Monday evening, Patrick's representative Annett Wolf publicly announced his passing. The statement read, "Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months."

No other detail has been provided though. At the time of writing there has been no statement issued by Patrick's family regarding burial plans.

Patrick Swayze was born on August 18, 1952. He was first diagnosed with stage 4 of pancreatic cancer early last year. At that time his representative confirmed the entertainer would still continue filming A&E's drama series "The Beast" despite the disease.

Since story of his pancreatic cancer made its way all over the media, Patrick was often forced to deny false reports claiming his health was worsening and that he was dying. Most recently, Patrick was reported to have been planning to write a memoir.

Details of the planned memoir have been exposed in February this year. It is said that the book will offer an intimate account of Patrick's childhood, career and marriage, as well as his brave fight against a diagnosis of stage-four pancreatic cancer. The set is slated to be published this fall under Atria Books, which is one of Simon & Schuster's imprints.
