"The only mission is survival" is the key ingredient of "Stargate Universe" season 1. The slogan is included in the new poster released via Entertainment Weekly which shows a modernized format of The Stargate itself over a stark white background. It features also three of the lead actors, Brian J. Smith, Robert Carlyle and Alaina Huffman, running.

Stargate Universe follows the adventures of a present-day, multinational exploration team on board the ancient spaceship Destiny, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's stargate to survive.

Scheduled to be premiered on SyFy October 2, "Universe" is one of the "Stargate" TV series franchises. On how this would be different from the rest, creator Robert Cooper said, "We felt that ATLANTIS and SG1 had gotten too self-referential and too far into their own mythologies and we wanted to make a show that is broader and more accessible to audiences of science fiction."

SyFy has also ordered 30 webisodes to accompany the series but no premiere date is set yet. Co-creator Brad Wright explained, "They are literally just voyeuristic scenes we're shooting specifically for the Web. It's an extra way to get a window on our program and gives fans a slice of life look at our ship."
