Metallica reportedly struck a deal with 'Rock Band' video game publisher to release their new single.

Ways to release musical work these days are getting variable, or should one say 'unconventional'. Heavy metal band Metallica, among some, decide to release their new single in a new media, a video game.

While their classics are favorites in the Harmonix-developed 'Guitar Hero' games series, Metallica are eying to debut their new single through the company's other production, 'Rock Band'. This means that the single will be heard for the first time through the playing of the gamers.

Paul DeGooyer, Senior VP of MTV that publish the game, said, "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with Metallica for example. They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game."

'Rock Band', unlike 'Guitar Hero' that naturally only allow the players to play the guitar, gives access to three different instrument-based peripherals such as the guitars, drums and mic. It was released on November 20 for PS3 and XBox 360.

In the meantime, Metallica is expected to release their ninth studio album that has been highly-anticipated since their latest release would be the 2003's 'St. Anger'. Several new materials dubbed "new song" have been debuted during their live shows. However, it's still unclear which will be made the first single.
