Exclusive Golden Compass Worldwide Trailer to Get Launched at Rockefeller Center

The trailer will debut on October 9, 2007 at the opening of the Ice Rink with Sam Elliott serving as the host.

AceShowbiz - Start counting the day, folks, time is drawing near for a new trailer for "The Golden Compass" to go up onto the surface. New Line Cinema has announced that an exclusive worldwide trailer for the fantasy adventure will be launched on October 9, 2007 during the opening of the celebrated Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center, New York City.

Slated to host the event is Sacramento-born actor Sam Elliott who plays skilled "aeronaut" balloonist Lee Scoresby in the movie. The veteran thesp will lead a countdown to the unveiling of the trailer at 8:30 PM EST, which will be displayed on two massive LED screens placed on either side of the Rink for guests to view for the first time.

In conjunction with the release, special events are being planned to be held on the same day in countries across the globe, including Italy, Japan, Germany and Holland, along with a simultaneous debut for the trailer on Yahoo.com. What's more, party attendees also get a chance to win a trip to London for the flick's world premiere on November 27, 2007.

In addition to the trailer's debut at the Rink, the Top of the Rock Observation Deck is said to feature the footage as well on its large screens located on the Mezzanine Level during the holiday season.

"The global launch of the trailer will officially begin the countdown to the film's release, and it's a great way to embrace the excitement that has already been building for the film," New Line Cinema's President and COO of Worldwide Distribution and Marketing Rolf Mittweg remarked. "'The Golden Compass' already has a huge fan base around the world, and these events will not only feed off that energy, but also introduce new audiences to the film who may not yet be familiar with the books."
