Fox Searchlight is setting up a film adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings' first novel "The Descendants."

AceShowbiz -

Just being informed to make "The Ornate Anatomy of Living Things" under its banner, Fox Searchlight is already moving to another big screen project.

The studio has been reported to develop an unconventional family drama entitled "The Descendants" based on Kaui Hart Hemmings' debut novel of the same name which was published Tuesday, May 15.

Story tells about a newly widowed father -- the descendant of landowners and one of the richest men on Oahu -- who takes off with his two rebellious daughters to track down his wife's lover on the island of Kauai. Jim Burke, Alexander Payne, and Jim Taylor are all onboard to produce through their production company, Ad Hominem.

"The Descendants" is a "well-observed, very human story that has a graceful balance of sardonic humor and deep emotion," Burke commented.
