"The Lonely Doll," a project based on the life of Dare Wright, the author and photographer of the eponymous children's book and its sequels, is scheduled to begin shooting in summer 2006. The movie will tell about the close relationship between the childlike Wright and her mother, a well-known portrait artist and single mom in the 1950s.

Appointed to direct the movie is painter-turned-filmmaker Julian Schnabel. Britain's Number 9 Films who got Wright's rights from Brook Ashley, the sole heir and executor of the Dare Wright Estate, and New York-based Killer Films who obtained the rights to Jean Nathan's book "The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll: The Search for Dare Wright, will both jointly produce the movie.
