though it doesn't have a deeper meaning than war sucks, "VFW" does have a surprising amount of touching moments.. the action is bloody and thrilling; it does so competently enough to be a gory and fun throwback to '80s punk rock action movies
practical gore, violence, an adrenaline-fueled vibe, and an insanely fun cast that brings their banter, experience, and swagger all culminate in a riotous heavy metal sensory assault you’ll want to inject into your veins
it's a less personal, and therefore less impactful, film than "Bliss", but the chemistry of the ensemble cast and the entertaining action make this the best of the new Fangoria movies yet
an action-packed love letter to John Carpenter; Joe Begos shows us what he's really made of by building a relentless pace so packed with tension we remain firmly at the edge of our seats, biting our fingernails until there's nothing left
"VFW" delivers the goods --tough-guy dialogue, memorable characters, and so much splatter-- and audiences will be giddy as adolescents as the gore literally explodes on screen
