the 80s were kind of a golden age for films for teens; "This is the Year" by David Henrie (first feature film), who co-wrote and directed, is that type of film. Filled with laughs, crushes and heightened emotions
Henrie makes a strong writing and directing feature debut and shows an ability to appreciate the past and blend it with modern attitudes to create multigenerational entertainment
filled with strong performances and likable characters the story pushes all the right buttons but lacks the proper tension; There is a lot of fun to be had, but the conflict that makes these types of movies memorable is sorely missing
