there's no aura to them; the emotions of the stories have been lost. We could be watching the standard ghoulish CGI effects that take place in any horror movie of the week

Andre Ovredal's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" hits nearly all the right notes. While it may be too scary for young children on their own, a family Halloween movie night with this would certainly be a hit
"Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" ultimately celebrates reading and the joy of discovery through the written word; the film finally gets into gear around the midpoint and zooms to a satisfying finish
