Not quite bad, but it's not recommended either.

Movie Reviews

  • there's entertainment value in its craziness. It's certainly not something to get lost in, but as eye candy with a manic spirit, it just might do the trick, especially for viewers coming to the movie with lowered expectations for dramatic satisfaction

  • the worst of the film's sins is its mistreatment of Milla Jovovich; Jovovich does her best with her limited screen time, but so much of Alan Yuen's script just asks her to be exasperated by Zhao's antics (and nothing more)
1 of 5 by Matthew Monagle [Austin Chronicle ]
  • it's an incredibly weird film; Incoherent, unfunny, unfathomably weird and tonally all over the place, The Rookies is an overstuffed yet vacuous spy comedy-thriller
by LP Hugo [Asian Film Strike ]
  • an elaborately weird, tedious Hong Kong spy flick; it schizophrenically uses the genre's tropes as both a means to earnestly create suspense and comedically spoof our desire to invest in their outlandish theatrics earnestly
Review rate : C- by Jared Mobarak [The Film Stage ]
  • Alan Yuen's film suffers in (literal) translation with redubbed characters whose complexities - and sometimes basic motivations - are obscured
1.5 of 5 by Todd Gilchrist [What to Watch ]
