the third installment revolving around an a cappella singing group doesn't begin how you would expect. The opening sequence, the fiery explosions and violent mayhem in this movie effectively signals that Pitch Perfect 3 is only going downhill from there
It still sounds like we're in middle-period "Glee"...but, as directed by Trish Sie, the movie is bubbly, it's fast, it's hella synthetic-clever, and it's an avid showcase for the personalities of its stars
It looks like these performers are genuinely enjoying themselves, and it's infectious. Despite the preposterous escapades and the self-destructive satire, at the end of it all, there's something real left standing
as someone who loved the original movie, this simply can't reach its high notes. It's not unpleasant, thanks to the energetic dialogue and songs, but it lacks the fun and focus that made "Pitch Perfect" such a surprise hit worthy of repeat viewings
a tired retread of better jokes in the first two movies, this drags along to an admittedly heartwarming conclusion. But it's a good thing this caps the trilogy because it's coasting on fumes
