this is a thoughtful film, but one that's slightly limited by its own careful restraint
none of the performances are overly showy, nor is the movie on the whole. When Mildred tells her husband, "We may lose the small battles but win the big war," it's not so much a passionate statement as a reserved call to arms
it's a tough, understated part to play, and Edgerton does a terrific job
