the drawback to Steven Soderbergh's approach is that "The Laundromat" risks becoming flippant and facetious; The director has brilliant actors at his disposal but doesn't give any of them proper characters to play
Steven Soderbergh excels at exploring the complex systems governing modern society with a delicious ironic tone; "The Laundromat" may be blunt, and the humor hit-or-miss -- but it swings wildly at a worthy target, and eventually hits its mark
it's a thoroughly frustrating and tedious; Regardless of its seemingly admirable intent and ambition, The Laundromat is not a good film. It's sloppy, and self-indulgent, and in no way worthy of the self-satisfaction it brings to its big conclusion

"The Laundromat" is similarly breezy, unsubtle, and disposable, it is still a better movie. That's in part because this incredible cast in their sunny locations just seems to be having the best time, & that's infectious no matter what the subject matter
