well-intentioned mawkishness was a large part of the first film too, so things haven't changed entirely, but the shortage of cute-cat activity makes this a rather misjudged present for Bob's fans
not much has changed since the original, apart from the mildly cheering Christmas plot. Luke Treadaway's thoroughly downbeat performance as James won't be for everyone, and the storyline is a touch thin, but its heart is in the right place
an undeniably good-hearted film; Luke Treadaway once again brings depths not found elsewhere in the film with his gentle, sensitive performance as Bowen; It's an undemanding, telly-ish film, with as many surprises as the Queen's speech
a sweet slice of festive, feel-good entertainment. Despite some narrative meandering and seasonal indulgence this is a fine return to the big screen for Bob
