no magical mice or glass slippers are here, and actress/choreographer/writer/director Michelle Johnston doesn't make the movie “fit” the tale’s parameters as neatly as you'd hope
enjoyable modern-day fairy tale has music, romance, humor; The likable Laura Marano and Gregg Sulkin have a nice chemistry; the directing is accomplished, and there's lots of rooting interest for the "prince" and "princess" of this pleasing tale
