two-thirds tiresome dog story, one-third efficient tearjerker; "The Art of Racing in the Rain" is watchable but flat, with only occasional flashes of wit and feeling
that's not as peppy as "A Dog's Purpose" nor as droll as "Isle of Dogs", and nowhere near as inane as "Look Who's Talking Now" but still effective on its own dog-forsaken terms
here we have the jerkiest of tearjerkers. It's a film so determined to wring out emotion from the audience that it offers up a cancer storyline and a beloved-animal-reflecting-on-those-he-loves storyline
