while films of this ilk are guaranteed to follow a somewhat predictable path, the magic of this film is how it packs in a disarming amount of palpable poignancy that sneaks up on its audience when they least expect it
there's really nothing engaging here; from the lackluster characters to the romantic relationships that barely fizzle. The movie wants you to feel something, and you might at times, but there is really nothing meaningful about it
it's a dinglebrained comedy, only frequently and not totally witless. So no surprises here, zilch, nada, all expectations met and cliches fulfilled, move along, move along
"Afterlife of the Party" is a middle-of-the-road comedy film for Netflix–it's not essential viewing but you might take away something from watching. There's a healthy mix of learning lessons, too
