Toby and Oz respond to a call at Abby Locke's apartment. Her husband passed out and hit his head on his way to the floor. When Toby asks why there's a frozen turkey near his head, Abby claims she was out of frozen peas, so she was using it as a cold compress. Toby flashes on Abby yelling at her husband and clocking him over the head with the frozen turkey. When Toby asks if Abby used the turkey on her husband, she laughs nervously. At least the turkey is organic.

After work, Oz tries to persuade Toby to go for a drink, but he promised Olivia dinner and a movie. Ryder doesn't care that the guys have plans. Another ambulance was rear-ended by a tow truck, so he needs them to work a double shift. Toby and Oz report to a street corner near a park where Ron Wallace fell and hit his head. Toby gets a flash of a young blond woman as he discovers that Ron has massive head trauma and barely has a pulse.

As Toby and Oz load Ron onto a stretcher, a gun falls out of his pocket. Toby gets another flash. Ron looks at the blond woman and repeats, "Gonna kill you!" When everything goes white, Toby knows that Ron has died. Toby spies another item that has fallen out of Ron's pocket: a surveillance photo of the blond exiting a building. At the hospital, Toby asks Olivia if there's any truth to the white light at death thing. Olivia informs that as the body shuts down, pupils dilate, which explains the white light. Since Toby's working a double shift, Olivia and Toby postpone their date until Friday, when Toby will cook dinner.

The next day, a uniformed officer prevents Toby from his usual habit of walking through the station to see Charlie. Becker corners Toby to drill him with questions. Why is he hanging around so much? And why does he care about Ron Wallace? Charlie interrupts, sending Toby a mental message to make an excuse and get out. Claiming that he's finally going to tell Becker the truth, Toby explains that he and Charlie are dating. Satisfied but confused, Becker leaves the so-called lovebirds alone. Toby tells Charlie that he thinks Ron may have been a hit man.

Charlie scoffs at the idea that Ron was a hit man, and allows Toby to check out his file. Ron was recently released after serving 15 years for embezzling $4 million. Toby pockets Ron's mug shot and returns to work, lost in thought. Oz already knows that Toby wants to find the blond woman from his flash on Ron. Toby's idea is to locate the building in the photograph and stand outside to wait for the blond to appear. Luckily, Oz recognizes the building and knows where it is.

Toby lucks out and spies the blond girl exiting the building. Awkwardly claiming he's not trying to hit on her, Toby shows her the picture of Ron, whom she identifies as her father. On the way to the morgue, Lindsay explains that when her father went to jail, her mother wouldn't let her have anything to do with him and immediately remarried. Strangely, Ron called a week ago, saying he needed to see her urgently. They made a date for last night. Regardless, Lindsay has no idea where the money Ron was accused of stealing is; people have been trying to locate it for years.

After identifying Ron's body, Lindsay passes out. Oz gives Lindsay some water, as Toby tells her about Ron's gun. Despite Oz's mental messages warning that he's going to make Lindsay faint again, Toby suggests someone might want to kill her. Later, Toby bumps into Charlie at the hospital and tells her he found Lindsay. Ron was supposed to meet her on the night he was killed. Charlie informs that a witness saw Ron being run down by a car -- now the case is a possible homicide. And the mug shot Toby stole from her desk? Charlie wants it back.

At the station, Becker demands to know why Charlie's boyfriend found Lindsay before them. Charlie claims that it's because he likes to impress her. They move on to interview Lindsay, and Becker cuts to the chase. Did Ron say that anyone was threatening her? Lindsay claims her father didn't say much, but he did sound scared. Getting aggressive and offensive, Becker clearly doesn't believe that Lindsay doesn't know anything about the missing $4 million.

Upset over the way Becker treated her, Lindsay calls Toby, who claims that Becker is suspicious of everyone. Lindsay is freaking out: she has to plan a funeral, talk with her mother, find a will. When Toby offers to help, Lindsay asks him to accompany her to Ron's apartment, where she's surprised to find an "innocence box" filled with clippings, court documents and a list of names with the heading "BPI." Ron was clearly trying to prove that he didn't embezzle the $4 million. When Toby hears a noise, he tiptoes to the door. Whoever was picking the lock slams the door into Toby's head, knocking him out.

Down at the station, Charlie questions Toby and Lindsay. Neither of them saw the guy, and they don't know what he might have been after. When Charlie makes a crack about a missing $4 million, Toby assures her they would have told her if they found it. Charlie promises to check out Ron's apartment, then sends Toby a mental message to get the hell out before Becker returns from lunch. On the way out, Lindsay comments that she wishes she was a mind reader. It's clear that Charlie thinks Lindsay knows more than she's saying.

Toby escorts Lindsay to Ron's funeral, where she introduces him to her mother Norine. Norine stuns Lindsay with her comment that she often dreamed of this funeral. In defense of Ron, Lindsay tells Norine about the innocence box -- what if he really didn't take the money? Norine insists that Lindsay is going through the same thing she did, coming to terms with who Ron really was.

After the funeral, Ron's old friend Syd Pickston offers his condolences to Lindsay. He went to high school with Ron, who never got a break in life. Syd got Ron his programming job at Metro-York Financial at Norine's request. Ron was working late on the night the $4 million electronically disappeared, and wound up catching the blame. Syd still believes that Ron was set up, and knows he was getting close to proving his innocence. When Toby asks about Ron's gun, he gets a flash: Syd gave Ron the gun for protection. Syd doesn't recognize any names on Ron's list, but suggests that BPI could stand for Bank of the Polynesian Islands.

When Toby stops by the police station, Charlie tries to escort him out. Becker's been all over her about the so-called affair with Toby. Toby is just handing over Ron's list of names when Becker strolls up -- is Toby there for work or pleasure? Both Toby and Charlie know that Becker's skeptical and/or jealous, so they play it up. Charlie swoons that Toby loves to impress her, and Toby blows her kisses on the way out.

Lindsay stops by the car wash where Ron was working. Manager Martha surprises Lindsay with a warm hug. Her dad was such a great guy, and he loved Lindsay so much. She hands off a bag of Ron's stuff to Lindsay, which contains a card for BPI: Bender Private Investigations. Toby is just firming up his date with Olivia when Lindsay calls to ask him to meet her at Bender's office. Toby takes off, assuring Olivia that he'll still be able to cook dinner.

Bender is kind of a jerk, but finally admits that Ron brought him a list of people he wanted located. Most of the names were fairly common, making it harder to track them down, especially since the list was 15 years old. Bender hasn't had much luck. Ron said the names would vindicate him, but that the less Bender knew, the safer he would be. Later while driving with Oz, Toby replays his flash on Ron at the moment of his death. Maybe the white light wasn't the white light of death, but the white light of oncoming headlights and then death.

Lindsay calls Toby. Someone broke into her apartment and roughed her up. Toby calls Charlie to meet them at the hospital, and gives her the news that she was right -- someone tried to run Ron down in a car. Charlie claims it was either a truck or an SUV. Tracks were found in the grass where he died. At the hospital, Lindsay claims she's okay, just scared. The intruder pushed her on the way out, she didn't see his face, and doesn't think he took anything.

Toby tells Lindsay that he thinks what happened to her was intentional; he may have received her photo as a threat to stop digging around. Charlie just got a report back on the list of names, all of whom were victims of identity theft in the '90s. Bank accounts were opened in their names, a few thousand transferred in and then removed. Everyone realizes that Ron was probably innocent. Toby points out an anomaly. If the three of them managed to figure it out so quickly, why was Bender working on the list for months with no progress?

On the way back to Bender's office, Toby notices an SUV parked outside. Using his telepathy, Toby starts working on Ron, whom he concludes must have found the person who really stole the $4 million. Once he switched sides, Bender tried to scare Ron away from the truth by threatening Lindsay. When that didn't work, he tried to run him down. Bender denies everything until Toby points to Charlie making impressions of his SUV tires to match those found near where Ron died. Now would be a good time for Bender to cooperate, and tell Charlie who really took the money.

Toby and Charlie return to the hospital where Norine sits with Lindsay. Charlie asks Norine to come down to the station, revealing that they've spoken with Bender. Shocked, Lindsay asks her mother what happened. Norine claims that because Ron had no money, Lindsay had no opportunities; Norine put him in jail so they could have a decent life. When Charlie leads Norine away, Lindsay curses herself as a loser. What did she gain from all of this? Toby reminds her that she gained the truth, which is sometimes hard to find.

Back at the station, Becker congratulates Charlie for wrapping up the case. And is she really dating Toby? Of course not. Who needs a telepath when Charlie already knows what Becker's thinking? Reading each others' minds, Charlie and Becker head out to get a drink together. Olivia knocks on Toby's door, armed with flowers and chocolate. Dinner's almost ready. Taking no chances, Toby shuts off both their cell phones and shuts the door.
