During a Marine beach party (without the beach), a messenger informs Simon that there's an urgent phone call for him. He mysteriously rejects the call as he sips on a margarita because he's "busy in surgery." He sure takes his work seriously.

The BBQ is cut short when Rebecca and Grace return to the hospital where injured soldiers keep close to the unit's lucky charm, AKA a private who brings good fortune to the wounded. Rebecca discovers that her wounded soldier is relatively unharmed despite a bullet through his side. That's not all. Another patient is miraculously unscathed as well. While Rebecca dismisses the idea of "luck," the Colonel admits that he's a strong believer in Fortuna, the Greek goddess of fortune. And as luck would have it, a new scanner comes in. Finally, Fortuna has answered his prayers.

Grace conducts a group therapy session where one PA, Ariel, seems to be most affected. A noisy beeper sends her rushing out the door before therapy is over. She returns to ask Grace if they could talk over dinner. Little does she know it's not exactly a therapy session, it's a dinner date. When Ariel asks if Grace is gay, our favorite psychiatrist asks her to leave. She's her doctor-nothing more.

The back story of the lucky charm, Flax, is revealed. He survived a car crash at a young age but his parents weren't so lucky. His unit is his family now. Even though he's been helping to save lives, his luck seems to be running out. Flax drops unexpectedly to the ground. He needs surgery for a stomach issue that arose from his childhood car accident. Fortunately, he's in a place that offers the best care anywhere.

Just as Rebecca is laying down for bed her beeper goes off. Looks like Flax has a blood clot in his lung. Simon is called to help. They have to drain blood from his brain if he's going to survive...again. Mid-surgery, a messenger asks Simon to take the urgent phone call he keeps delaying. He ignores it again and completes Flax's surgery. Flax is alive, but the joy is short-lived. The patient is now brain dead.

Rebecca wants to fulfill his last dying wish: to live eternally as an organ donor. Though there's no protocol for donating organs in their hospital, Rebecca gets permission from the Colonel to carry-out the request. Sadly, her efforts are halted when she can't get permission for the transfer of his body to another hospital. In a happy turn of events, the Colonel decides to make a 'clerical miscommunication' on a form so that Flax's body will be allowed to get onto a plane to become an organ donor. Sometimes you have to make your own luck.

Luckily for Bobby, his research has paid off. He's been right all along and now he has the data to prove it. Rebecca isn't happy about this at first-she's used to being the top doc. Full of competitive spirit, AKA jealousy, she wants to dislike Bobby. But this not-liking Bobby thing is tough; he's just such a great guy. Rebecca confesses her frustration in a heart-to-heart and learns that Bobby actually tries so hard because he wants people TO like him... ahem, not secretly hate him. He looks hurt. Rebecca laughs at herself and gives the guy a hug. Even when he outshines her a little, she can't help but like him.

In other news, Grace eventually admits that she has feelings for Ariel, but she's just not available. And finally, Rebecca overhears the long awaited conversation that Simon refused to have earlier. Something is mumbled about transferring money and the bad consequences that could come of it. Hopefully the details of that mystery will be revealed soon. Until then, let's hope Rebecca can finally get a good night's sleep.
