During the interview, Nick also claims that he never wants to be famous, adding that 'I don't have fans. I've never approached it as wanting that level of admiration.'

AceShowbiz - Nick Cannon gave more insight into his past marriage to Mariah Carey. During his interview with Variety, the "Wild 'N' Out" star had a non-verbal agreement with the singing diva in which he would always let her command on the spotlight.

"I always used to say it worked so well because it was a healthy balance," he said in the interview. "I had no problem falling back. It was never a competition with me."

"My ego outside the house was grand but in the house it was healthy. I was there to be in support of whatever she wanted to do," the 39-year-old, who shares twins, daughter Monroe and son Moroccan, with the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" hitmaker, went on saying. "I mean, it's Mariah Carey. How am I supposed to be? She's one of the most talented women [on] this planet. I can't hold a candle to that woman."

During the interview, Nick also claimed that he never wanted to be famous. "I'm not one of those people who have fans -- that fantastical-level fandemonium type of thing," "The Masked Singer" host revealed. "There may be people who are fans of aspects of my career, or certain projects. But I don't have fans. I've never approached it as wanting that level of admiration."

In the same interview, Nick, who also has a son Golden with actor Brittany Bell, mentioned that his three kids inspired to pursue high education. "I wanted to be that example to my kids," he shared. "I would find myself doing youth advocacy and telling kids to get an education, but I never completed mine."

Mariah and Nick tied the knot in April 2008 after a weeks-long courtship. Their marriage didn't last long as they split in 2014 before officially getting divorced in 2016. Despite the separation, they remain in good relationship while co-parenting their 9-year-old twins.
