After his case is re-examined by a special prosecutor, the former 'Empire' actor has been indicted on six counts for allegedly staging hate crime and faking police report.

AceShowbiz - Actor Jussie Smollett has been indicted on charges he made a series of false reports to the Chicago Police Department.

Officials claim he staged a hate-crime attack against himself to gain publicity.

The six-count indictment has been brought against the former "Empire" star by special prosecutor Dan Webb.

Last year 2019, Smollett was accused of hiring two brothers to stage an attack on himself outside his Chicago apartment. Police leaders filed a 16-count felony indictment against him for filing a false police report, but Jussie was released from custody in March 2019 and Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx dropped all charges against him.

Webb was appointed in August to re-examine the case against Smollett and determine why the charges were dropped.

Smollett is now due in court on February 24, 2020 according to local news channel Fox32.

The scandal cost Smollett his role on "Empire".
