Channing Tatum's 'Gambit' to Feature Female Lead Supervillain
Movie

While there have been rumors that Mr. Sinister will be the 'X-Men' spin-off's main big bad, a new report suggests it will have this telepathic suppervillain as our Cajun superhero's main enemy.

AceShowbiz - It looks like Channing Tatum's titular character in "X-Men" spin-off "Gambit (2019)" will be facing off against a female supervillain. There have been rumors that Mr. Sinister will be the main big bad in the upcoming film, but a new report from Omega Underground suggests it will feature "X-Men" villain Candra The Benefactress, a character best known as Red Death.

Should the report be true, it's possible that the inclusion of Candra will lead to the introduction of a group known as The Externals in 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" universe. In the comics, Candra is a member of the immortal group and possesses extremely powerful telekinetic abilities. Believed to have been killed by the X-Men after her power gem's destroyed, she has since returned with a new-found ability to feed on others' lifeforces.

"Gambit" is expected to take inspiration from "Ocean's Eleven" and will take place both in the past and present as we see Tatum's Remy LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit develop a relationship with Bella Dona and later get hired by the evil Mr. Sinister. Considering the fact that Candra is the one who controls both New Orleans-based superhero guilds, Thieves Guild, which Gambit belongs to, and the Assassin's Guild, which Bella belongs to, chances are she'll have a pivotal role in the film.

Fox has yet to confirm the report. This comes just days after the studio announced a release date for the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off. The first solo film of the card-wielding mutant is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2019. In that Valentine's Day slot, the long-in-development movie will face off against New Line/Warner Bros.' comedy "Isn't It Romantic" and Universal's untitled Blumhouse project.

Gore Verbinski, the director behind three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, is set to direct "Gambit". Aside from Tatum, no other cast members have been confirmed. Rumor has it that James Bond actor Daniel Craig is being eyed to take on the role of Mr. Sinister. Craig's co-star Lea Seydoux, meanwhile, was once linked to play Bella Donna, though it's unclear whether or not she's still attached to the role.
