The freshly released image features Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto filming a fight scene on what is said to be 'a Space Barge set' from the much awaited J.J. Abrams-directed sci-fi movie.

How Benedict Cumberbatch will look like as the major villain in "Star Trek" sequel has been unveiled in an on-set photo from the highly anticipated sci-fi movie. MTV has shared the picture that gives a first look at Cumberbatch's antagonist character as he fights Zachary Quinto's Spock on what is said to be "a Space Barge set."

Donning his signature Star Fleet blue uniform, Spock is seen battling the supervillain with his famous Vulcan Death Grip. Cumberbatch, on the other hand, is featured donning a black version of the uniform under his overcoat. It is said that in the fight scene, Cumberbatch's character is "able to overpower the grip and regain upper hand in his struggle against the Star Fleet officer."

Aside from the first look of the supervillain, there is a photo that shows Zoe Saldana's Uhura joining the fight. Wearing her red skirt uniform, the heroine is seen pointing a phaser at the villain.

Cumberbatch was tapped for the villainous role back in January to replace Benicio Del Toro, who was originally eyed by J.J. Abrams to tackle the part. The exact details of his character, however, are still kept under very tight wraps. The "War Horse" actor himself always played it coy when asked about his character.

In an interview about his role in the untitled Star Trek sequel earlier this year, the "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" star said, "I don't think we do know that, actually." He stressed that the report claiming he will tackle the antagonist was "just supposition," adding, "And that's all I'm going to say about it."

"Star Trek 2", which has been planned to be given a "high-end" 3D conversion, is due to open wide in the U.S. theaters on May 17, 2013. Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and John Cho are all set to return as James T. Kirk, Scotty, Pavel, Bones and Hikaru Sulu respectively.
