After playing in a high-profile thriller "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)", Rooney Mara might land another significant role in another movie. Twitch reported that Mara is eyed to star in Spike Lee's remake of "Oldboy". She is expected to play a character named Marie.
There has been no official offer made for the actress who plays Erica Albright in "The Social Network". Nonetheless, it is rumored that the 25-year-old New York-born actress is the director's top pick for the female lead role.
Based on a 2003 Korean revenge thriller from Park Chan-wook, "Oldboy" follows a recently paroled middle-aged man. He spent 15 years in prison without any explanation as to why he was jailed. He then seeks revenge on those who conspired against him. The U.S. version is produced by Doug Davidson and Roy Lee, while the script is written by "Thor" screenwriter Mark Protosevich.
Previously, there has been some swirling rumors that "The Dark Knight Rises" lead star Christian Bale is eyed for the villain in the project. Back in August, it was also reported that "True Grit" actor Josh Brolin has secured the lead role.
In 2008, DreamWorks was actually planning to develop the remake. The studio was in the early talks with Steven Spielberg and Will Smith to direct and star in the project respectively. However, a deal had never been signed until it was confirmed that the remake will be developed at Mandate with Lee serving behind the lens.
