The Big Sick is a 2017 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Michael Showalter and written by Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani, who also star in the film. The film is based on the real-life courtship and marriage of Nanjiani and Gordon, who met in Chicago in 2007. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2017, and was released in the United States on June 23, 2017.
