The Dark Tower is an upcoming American science fantasy Western film directed by Nikolaj Arcel and starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. The film is based on the novel series of the same name by Stephen King. The first trailer for the film was released on May 5, 2017. The trailer shows Elba as Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger in Mid-World, who is on a quest to reach the Dark Tower, a mysterious building that is said to grant wishes. McConaughey plays Walter Padick, a man who is pursued by Roland because he is believed to be the key to reaching the Dark Tower. The trailer also features brief glimpses of other characters, including Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor), Susan Delgado (Abbey Lee), and Callahan (Dennis Haysbert).
