NBC Responds to Nobel Peace Prize Winners' Protest Against 'Stars Earn Stripes'

After being hit with discrimination accusation by Jack and Sharon Osbourne, "Stars Earn Stripes" is now slammed by nine Nobel Peace Prize winners. Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the other Nobel laureates send an open letter to NBC's exec Robert Greenblatt, asking the network to stop airing the show which they claim "trying to sanitize war by likening it to an athletic competition."

"Preparing for war is neither amusing nor entertaining," so they write. "It is our belief that this program pays homage to no one anywhere and continues and expands on an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence... Real war is down in the dirt deadly. People - military and civilians - die in ways that are anything but entertaining."

First Promo for Action-Packed Reality Series 'Stars Earn Stripes'

NBC lines up "Stars Earn Stripes", which is claimed to be unlike any other reality series, to debut later this summer and teases audience by giving a glimpse at the action-packed footage. Compiled in a newly-released promo, the scenes show eight celebrities taking part in military-style trainings that include challenges like swimming in the ocean and long-range target shooting.

As the contestants take part in missions that are faced by real American heroes, they'll learn about true bravery as well as honoring army veterans and law enforcement officers who have protected the country. "This new series pays tribute to members of our dedicated armed forces and civil law enforcement," said co-host Gen. Wesley Clark back in June.

Hyping up the upcoming summer premiere of "Stars Earn Stripes", NBC has released a poster for the new show. The one-sheet, which made its way out via Entertainment Weekly, shows the eight stars in action as they run away from an explosion and with some of them holding big guns.

Signing up for the inaugural season of the military-themed show are Sarah Palin's husband Todd Palin, singer/TV personality Nick Lachey, boxing champion Laila Ali, actor Dean Cain, former NFL player Terry Crews, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street, "The Biggest Loser" trainer Dolvett Quince and WWE's Diva Eve Torres.

NBC has a new reality series on its sleeve and has lined up public figures in the cast. It has been announced that Sarah Palin's husband Todd Palin, singer/TV personality Nick Lachey and boxing champion Laila Ali sign up to join the military-themed show, "Stars Earn Stripes".

They will compete with five other celebrities, actor Dean Cain, former NFL player Terry Crews, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street, "The Biggest Loser" trainer Dolvett Quince and WWE's Diva Eve Torres, in the physically and emotionally challenged games. Entertainment Tonight correspondent Samantha Harris and former presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark are tapped as the hosts.
