When ABC's "" gets closer to the finale in late May, FOX's "" will return for its ninth season. The first promo spot for the latter show has just landed online via TVLine, capturing some shots from the auditions.

Some of them who get the highlight in the clip are a full-time mom and an army who all share the same passion in dancing. At one point, judge/creator Nigel Lythgoe looks aghast, probably after watching one dancer's routine. Meanwhile, one contestant is surprised to learn positive review from the judges.

The New Year brings a new change for "". Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer and judge for the dance competition show, has just revealed that fans will have to wait a week before finding out who's been cut off from the competition in the new season since FOX axed the results show.

"#FOX have cancelled the results show so I will have to change the format of #SYTYCD," the 62-year-old broke the news through his Twitter account on Sunday, January 1. Remaining positive, he noted that the axing doesn't mean the end to the competition show as writing in the same tweet, "At least we have another season at the end of MAY."

Nigel Lythgoe got a special treat at the 39th annual International Emmy Awards. The creator of "" was announced as the recipient of Founders Award at the Monday, November 21 ceremony and he was handed out the kudo by surprise presenter .

Calling Lythgoe her favorite producer, GaGa had nothing but good words for the "" boss. "He always helped to nurture and foster my crazy ideas, no matter how demographically unfriendly they were," the Mother Monster said before adding, "I am honored to be here tonight, and I have shared many laughs with him on the side of the stage in my crazy outfits."

Audition Dates of 'So You Think You Can Dance' Season 9

Dancers may want to take note of the messages recently tweeted by Nigel Lythgoe. The "" judge, who also created the show along with Simon Fuller, has just announced the audition dates and cities for the ninth season of the FOX dancing competition.

The auditions will be kicked off on January 5, 2012 at Fox Theater in Atlanta. The show's crew will later visit several cities including Dallas, New York and Salt Lake City until the auditions end in Los Angeles on March 2.

On Thursday, August 12, "" has crowned a new winner. Lauren Froderman beat the odds when she was voted as America's favorite dancer in the finale, leaving Kent Boyd and Robert Roldan in the second and third place respectively.

Lauren's victory came across as both predictable and surprise. Statistically, Lauren has only been in the bottom three once but the clean record is actually attained by Kent. Contemporary dancer Lauren Froderman officially becomes the last woman standing in this current season of "" after the other female contestant Ashley Galvan stepped out. Judges sent home Ashley this week because she is injured and would not be able to perform for at least three weeks.

Ashley was injured while practicing for this week's show so she did not perform on Wednesday. Automatically, she is sent to the bottom three along with the least vote getters, Billy Bell and Jose Ruiz. After the 'dance for your life' which Ashley did not participate in as well, Nigel Lythgoe said he spoke to Ashley's doctor and was informed that she's not gonna be able to dance up to six weeks. Thus, the decision was made based on that.

Alex Wong's injury cost him his time on "". The only ballet dancer in the season was eliminated this week through unanimous votes from the judges. It was an easy decision because torn Achilles tendon which he got while in rehearsal will require an operation and months of rest.

Nigel Lythgoe said that Alex is welcome back next year. "It is just another thing you've got to get through in your life. It will strengthen you," he added. Alex welled-up a bit when hearing the judges' decision to send him home and the remaining contestants gave him a group hug. "I feel like I haven't finished my journey and I feel like I have so much more to learn," Alex said. "So I would love to come back."
