Two Go Home, Top 10 of 'SYTYCD' Revealed
November 26, 2009 02:11:35The Top 12 of "So You Think You Can Dance" season 6 have been wilted down to mere 10. Married ballroom dancer couple Ashleigh Di Lello and Ryan Di Lello are through to the next round but Karen Hauer and Victor Smalley have to stop their journey on the show.
During the deliberation, Karen and Victor were joined in the bottom three by Mollee and Nathan; and Ellenore and Ryan. All six of them had to dance for their lives if they wanted to stay in the competition. Karen was criticized for looking like she has surrendered and thus was the first to be eliminated. On the other hand, Victor delivered an energetic piece but it was not enough to convince the judges to keep him.

One Contestant Quits 'SYTYCD' Top 20
October 27, 2009 01:10:53There has been a shuffle in the Top 20 line-up of "So You Think You Can Dance". Billy Bell, the contemporary dancer who advanced to the next round last week is not allowed to move on with the competition because of his illness. FOX, which announced Bell's departure, declined to reveal the health problem.
"We are disappointed that Billy cannot continue dancing in the competition on the advice of his doctor and wish him a speedy recovery," executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe was quoted as saying. Bell will be replaced by hip-hop dancer Brandon Dumlao immediately on Tuesday, October 27. "However, we are fortunate that Brandon Dumlao has agreed to return," Lythgoe added.

October 24, 2009 10:10:04Viewers wondering how the Top 20 of "So You Think You Can Dance" look like need no guessing anymore. FOX has released the promotional shots of the 20 people who will begin competing with each other, together and separated by sex.
Just like in previous years, the 10 men and 10 women will be paired on the first day of their live performance. The judges for the October 27 episode would be Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Adam Shankman, the latest who has just been promoted to be a regular. Meanwhile, Mia Michaels who still had a say in the Las Vegas weeks, has stepped down from her position to pursue other projects.

Top 20 of 'So You Think You Can Dance' Revealed
October 22, 2009 11:10:03"So You Think You Can Dance" has found its sixth season's Top 20. The Las Vegas weeks are over, judges including Mia Michaels who will soon quit the show to pursue other projects, were doing lots of rejections and happy announcements to the 32 dancers who made it to the Las Vegas callback.
The Top 10 girls consist of six dancers moving in the contemporary genre. They are Ariana Debose, Channing Cooke, Pauline Mata, Katherine McCormick, Noelle Marsh and Ellenore Scott who are all 18 years old except for Scott who is 19. "Actually, I came in last season as a contemporary dancer, which was a bad idea because I didn't train in contemporary for a long time," Mata confessed.

Official, Mia Michaels Exits 'So You Think You Can Dance'
October 16, 2009 11:10:46After five years of judging "So You Think You Can Dance", Mia Michaels feels that it is time for her to move on. She officially confirmed her departure from the FOX show, writing on her Facebook on Wednesday, October 14, "Today was my official resignation of the U.S. show and look forward to what's ahead for me."
There is still no mention on why the Emmy-winning choreographer walks out of the show. She only hinted on her Twitter that there is a new project lying ahead. She wrote, "To create moments and movement for the world to share with me was a gift...thanks SYTYCD and look forward to whats ahead for me...lookout world!!!!!"

FOX Defends 'So You Think You Can Dance' Crotch Flash
October 01, 2009 11:10:32FOX and the execs of "So You Think You Can Dance" received the accusation of missing one tiny part which is potentially harmful for young audience during their editing. Things went big after Perez Hilton posted a video of a contestant flashing her private part on national television.
FOX has since come out with a statement in defense. "The footage in last night's So You Think You Can Dance was reviewed thoroughly by the network's Broadcast Standards & Practices prior to air and it was separately confirmed with the dancer that she was wearing flesh-toned dance gear," the statement to TV Guide was read.

Jeanine Mason, Winner of 'So You Think You Can Dance' Season 5
August 07, 2009 09:08:37Jeanine Mason became the second female dancer to win the title of "America's Favorite Dancer" on "So You Think You Can Dance". She beat another favorite, Brandon Bryant, who consequently became the runner up of season 5. Evan Kasprzak finished third while Kayla Radomski took the last spot.
Jeanine is an 18-year-old contemporary dancer from Miami who wowed the judges on the Wednesday, August 5 performance night with her solo. She was praised in the Samba routine, particularly when she did the series of pirouettes perfectly.

On the performance night dated August 5, Brandon earned lots of praises while Evan earned otherwise. On the other hand, the girls, Kayla and Jeanine, showed a tight race when they both got applauses from the judges.
To warm up the night, all four dancers joined forces for a piece choreographed by Wade Robson. Using Lady GaGa's "Boys Boys Boys", the routine was about two jocks hitting on two cheerleaders.

July 30, 2009 02:07:49The remaining 6 people of "So You Think You Can Dance" were fighting for their survival on Wednesday, July 29. Jeanine Mason, Ade Obayomi, Melissa Sandvig, Evan Kasprzak, Kayla Radomski and Brandon Bryant performed three types of dance: group, pair and solo.
First up was the Top 3 boys group routine choreographed by Sonya Tayeh. It was described as "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and Evan got the praise from guest judge Lil C for not being swallowed in between Ade and Brandon.

July 25, 2009 01:07:23In the middle of "So You Think You Can Dance" result night this week, Katie Holmes paid a tribute to Judy Garland by reprising the legend's "Get Happy" routine. The video where Katie is singing and dancing ala Broadway in the 100th episode gets out online.
Katie was supporting DizzyFeet Foundation in which she serves as one of the founders. The organization is aiming to help underprivileged kids to get access to dance education. The other founders are the show's judge Nigel Lythgoe, director Adam Shankman and "Dancing with the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba.

Two Leave on 'So You Think You Can Dance' 100th Episode

Katie Holmes appeared as a special guest, paying tribute to Judy Garland by singing and performing "Get Happy". But on top of all the festivity, two dancers have to end their journey.
The special episode started with a Broadway number of "One" from "A Chorus Line". The show then cut the chase and announced which dancers were in the bottom two. In the women side, Janette Manrara was in the bottom two along with judges favorite Kayla Radomski. In the men side, Jason Glover was in the bottom two along with another favorite, Brandon Bryant.

Ellen DeGeneres, who has been raving about her appearance on the dance show through her Twitter, sat on the judging panel to give comments on the performances of the Top 8.
After reaching the Top 10 stage, the remaining contestants are paired at random. But they got the chance to also dance in the large group and display their solo piece after the pair dancing. The show opener on Wednesday saw former contestant Travis Wall choreographing the group dance which Nigel Lythgoe described as "Very Lady GaGa".

Before a preview of what happened on performance night, host Cat Deeley came on stage to announce that the show grabbed 4 Emmy Awards' nominations for Choreography. Then, results for the top five girls were read. Janette who was the first to be called, was safe, but Randi became the first one to get in the bottom two. Jeanine was next and she's also safe, leaving Kayla and Melissa. Melissa joined Randi in the unsafe group.

'So You Think You Can Dance' Top 10 Recap: New Pairings, New Rules
July 16, 2009 03:07:41As the competition gets down to the final 10 of "So You Think You Can Dance" season 5, new rules are set, placing the judges out of the decision-making and giving America a chance to vote for individuals. Though the dancers now have to fight for American votes individually, they will still perform in couples, but there's a twist: each week they will get different partner. For this week, Kayla was paired with Evan, Ade with Janette, Jeanine with Jason, Kupono and Randi, and Brandon with Melissa.
Before all of the couples took the stage, the top five girls opened the show by performing a Bollywood routine choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan. Working as a group instead of trying to outshine one another, the girls stayed with the music the whole time and earned praises from judges. Nigel thought the group's performance was fantastic and said they were "five of the most beautiful girls working together", and Mary dubbed it "young, hip and fresh".

July 10, 2009 11:07:41"So You Think You Can Dance" narrows it down to Top 10 with the elimination of Phillip Chbeeb and Caitlin Kinney on Thursday, July 9. The two dancers, who were not a pair on Wednesday show, got the boot after the judges went unanimous on the decision.
The good news is, Philip and Caitlin will still be touring nationally with the Top 10 starting this September. "I have secured with the producers that you - and Caitlin - will be on the tour," Head Judge Nigel Lythgoe announced after cutting Phillip.

July 03, 2009 11:07:25Newly coupled dancers, Karla Garcia and Vitolio Jeune, have to swallow bitter pills of elimination when the judges of "So You Think You Can Dance" decided that it was time for them to go. Karla and Vitolio were in the bottom three along with the couples Kayla Radomski-Kupono Aweau and Jeanine Mason-Phillip Chbeeb.
During the solo effort to get a second chance, Karla danced to 'Blackbird' by Dionne Farris but Head Judge Nigel Lythgoe said the Jazz/Contemporary dancer did not ooze the star quality that they thought she possessed at the beginning. Meanwhile, Vitolio did a routine to "Here Comes Goodbye" by Rascal Flatts. Nigel said the Contemporary dancer offered nothing but his presence.

June 27, 2009 11:06:21Paula Abdul has exchanged messages on Twitter with "So You Think You Can Dance" head judge, Nigel Lythgoe, regarding a tribute for Michael Jackson on the dance show. On Friday, June 26 Nigel wrote, "People please use Twitter-Power. Ask @PaulaAbdul to choreograph a Michael Jackson tribute on SYTYCD" and Paula came with a favorable response later.
As a reply to Nigel's request, Paula wrote, "Have your people call my people Nigel and let's do it! Lol". Paula began her career in the '80s, choreographing for the Jacksons family including for Janet Jackson's "Control". She recalled, "I worked w/ the whole family when they got ready for the Reunion tour,1st video was 'Torture' & did the Victory tour."

Details of Katie Holmes' 'So You Think You Can Dance' Stint
June 18, 2009 10:06:11Although confirmation has not come out from Katie Holmes' side, the news about the actress coming to "So You Think You Can Dance" is ripening. Details are released, Katie is set to pay a homage to Judy Garland during the stint and she has done a rehearsal on Monday, June 15 at FOX Studios.
An insider present at the rehearsal told US Magazine that she will sing "Get Happy" which is a piece that Garland performed in her 1950 musical film "Summer Stock". In doing the role, Katie wears an all-black outfit similar to what Garland wore, complete with the black fedora and leather heels. Eight male dancers with suits and ties are behind her. The setting meanwhile, is built with scaffolding that gives the idea of her dancing on a rooftop with the sky being the backdrop.

Paris and Tony were coupled on the Top 20 round, crafting a Hip-Hop piece for Black Eyed Peas' "Let the Beat Rock". While Tony is originally a Hip-Hoper, Paris is leaning more into contemporary style. And their Wednesday performance, which was choreographed by the D'umo couple, was rather slow for the beat and not memorable.

The panel of judges, Adam Shankman, Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Debbie Allen, Mia Michaels and Lil C dropped the good news during the Las Vegas callbacks on Thursday, June 4 to 20 people who will advance to the next round.
The Top 20 consists of 10 women and 10 men. Starting next week (Wednesday, June 10), they will be split into pairs and compete weekly. Then the audience will have the power to determine which pairs stay and who should pack their bags until, 10 dancers remain. They will be judged individually when the competition reaches the Top 10.
