MTV Cancels Controversial Show 'Skins', PTC Pleased

"" could not last long in the U.S. since MTV has announced its decision cancel the show after only one season. Adapted from the U.K. show of the same name, the new TV series became talk of the town in the past year for featuring underage kids using drugs, drinking alcohol and having sex.

"Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn't connect with a U.S. audience as much as we had hoped," the network admitted. "We admire the work that the series' creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it."

MTV continues to battle those critics out there and the bad press that "" has been receiving since its premiere on January 17. The network vows to air all ten episodes of the controversial series although many companies have refused to be associated with the series about teens' wild life and pulled their ads.

"MTV stands by the US adaptation of Skins and the vision of its creator Bryan Elsley," the network said in a statement. "Skins has earned the loyalty of fans across the globe for its thoughtful and honest portrayal of teen life today. An internationally acclaimed scripted drama, the show has been honored with a long list of prestigious awards."

'Skins' Drops 51 Percent in Ratings as Advertisers Continue to Ditch It

MTV may take a stand against the criticism that "" is too dangerous for the teens in America but it can't ignore the fact that the number of people watching plunges sharply from the premiere to the second episode. According to Nielsen's data, 3.3 million tuned in last week, but the number is cut by 51% by the second week to only 1.6 million viewers.

However, it should be taken note that the sophomore episode got a weaker lead-in from "". The Monday, January 24 episode followed a re-rerun of the reality show which only drew 1.2 million viewers. Last week, "Skins" benefited from an all-new episode of "Jersey Shore" which drew 8.87 million viewers. A spokeswoman for MTV said the lead-in show could continue to shift in coming weeks.

Actress has taken aim at MTV bosses over the U.S. adaptation of British TV hit "", branding the show's saucy content "disgusting". The new series, which premiered in America last week, features controversial storylines involving sex and drugs, as well as foul language and nudity.

The first installment caused a furore in the U.S. - a parents campaign group complained about the content and major advertisers have since pulled their support for the show. Former Bond girl Richards admits she missed the season premiere - but after hearing about the "Skins" plotlines from a Twitter.com follower, she's less than impressed.

PTC Wants 'Skins' Investigated for Child Pornography

Officials at a leading U.S. family organization have urged federal agents to investigate reports suggesting a controversial new MTV series features underage actors and actresses in sex scenes. Parents Television Council bosses are disturbed by child pornography allegations made against racy new series "", which has been adapted for the U.S. after becoming a hit in Britain.

In a strongly-worded letter to the the U.S Department of Justice, the PTC writes, "In addition to the sexual content on the show involving cast members as young as 15, PTC counted 42 depictions and references to drugs and alcohol in the premiere episode." TMZ.com reports MTV executives have already met to discuss the issue.

'Skins' Toned Down to Avoid Child Pornography

"" may be MTV's new juggernaut but the network is not letting it loose creatively. The executives over at the music channel have commanded the producers to tone down an episode which is due to air on January 31 for fear that it may break child pornography laws.

Like in its British version, there will be a Chris-centric episode in which the actor behind the character is told to go butt-naked. Jesse Carere is shown from behind as he runs down the street with an erection resulting from erectile dysfunction pills. MTV is afraid that the show pushes it too far this time.

PTC: Why 'Skins' Is the 'Most Dangerous Show for Teens'

Five days away from its debut on Monday, January 17, MTV's "" is deemed "the most dangerous show for teens." Watchdog organization Parents Television Council is not pleased with the way the network markets the U.S. version.

"Despite the MA-rating for Skins, MTV appears to be deliberately targeting teens with its marketing campaign," said PTC president Tim Winter. "Skins may well be the most dangerous show for children that we have ever seen."

First Trailer of U.S. 'Skins' Remakes the Original Pilot

U.S.' take on popular British TV series "" is ready to launch with the release of a trailer on top of the January 2011 premiere. The trailer is sort of a shot-by-shot remake of the original pilot where 's Tony wakes up in the morning and starts making calls to his friends in preparation of a huge party.

In the MTV version, relatively new and young actors are cast. In Hoult's shoes as Tony is James Newman, red-haired Michelle is portrayed by Rachel Thevenard while Tony's best friend Sid is played by Daniel Flaherty but under the name Stanley. One distinctive difference between the original and the adaptation is they pick lesbians instead of gays.

Rock Star Huey Morgan Scores Cameo on 'Skins'

Fun Lovin' Criminals star Huey Morgan is set to add actor and author to his resume - he's landed a cameo role in British teen drama "" and written a series of spy books. The rocker has already branched out into TV work by appearing on several panel shows in the U.K., and he also presents a radio programme on the BBC's 6 Music station.

Now he is trying out acting - he will play a record shop owner in the popular British TV series. He's also written several spy novels, a good-versus-evil screenplay, and a story about a Vietnam war veteran.
